POLYCONTROL's latest album, 8Bit Dreams, is a retro-futuristic synth wave masterpiece that showcases the power of analog synthesizers and drum machines from the 80s. The album's tracks are sequenced by modular and linear multi-track sequencers, controlled by several analog and digital controllers, and feature a heavy dose of melodic, vocoded vocals. 8Bit Dreams's sound is a tribute to the celebrated hybrid analog/digital synthesizers of the mid-to-late 1980s, with a uniquely 21st-century hybrid twist. Dreamy, lush, and full of character.

The inspiration behind POLYCONTROL's use of analog synthesizers can be traced back to the unique sound and character that these instruments bring to music production. While digital tools can create any sound imaginable, analog synthesizers offer a natural harmonic complexity that is common in acoustic sounds. The vintage synthesizers' sound is pleasing to human ears due to variations of waveform shape, frequency, and amplitude along with distortion and noise. These "flaws" are the core of the attraction to analog synthesizers. The somewhat-primitive electronics coupled with inventors with musical ears led to synthesizers that not only allowed you to author sound but allowed you to author aurally-pleasing sound.
